Feb 21, 2022American Pecan Council seeks nominations for 22-26 term
The American Pecan Council (APC), with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversight, provides authority to collect industry data and to conduct research and promotion activities. The APC is actively seeking nominations for Council members & alternates for seats whose terms are ending in 2022.
Please read this cover letter and the forms carefully. Current seats open for elections are based on majority vote. Nominees with the greatest number of votes in either category and verified by USDA will be selected as Members or alternates until all official positions have been elected. Attached is both a Grower and a Sheller nomination form. Please use the form that represents your type of business. If you are a Grower and a Sheller, you may only nominate an individual in one category (Grower or Sheller). If you return more than one form, all forms will be deemed invalid.
Nomination of Council members and alternate members shall follow the procedures as set forth in §986.46 Council nominations and voting within the Federal marketing order.
USDA, Agricultural Marketing Service policy is that the diversity of the Council should reflect the diversity of their industries in experience of members, methods of production and distribution, marketing strategies, and other distinguishing factors that will bring different perspectives and ideas to the table. When submitting nominations, the industry must consider the diversity of the population served and the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the members to serve a diverse population.
Nominations will be accepted from February 16, 2022 –March 31, 2022. Nominations sent by regular mail must be postmarked by March 31, 2022.
Grower nominations:
To nominate a Grower for the region in which you are located, you, your supporters, and the nominee must have a proprietary interest in 30 acres or more of pecans or produce an annual average of at least 50,000 pounds of inshell pecans. You can only nominate a Grower from the region in which you also predominately grow pecans. In addition to you being the nominator, you must also have two other growers act in support of your nomination. Specific information can be found within the Federal marketing order under 7 CFR 986.46(b)(3).
Sheller nominations:
To nominate a Sheller for the region in which you are located, you, your supporters, and the nominee must shell more than 1,000,000 pounds of pecans during the previous year. You can only nominate a Sheller from the region in which you predominately shell pecans. In addition to you being the nominator, you must also have one other sheller to act in support of your nomination. Specific information can be found within the Federal marketing order under 7 CFR 986.46(b)(4).
- The following seats up for nomination for the 2022-2026 term of office are:All of these members, with the exception of Mike Adams, Dan York, Larry Willson, and Buck Paulk are eligible to run for the member seat for the 2022-2026 term. However, Mike Adams, Dan York, Larry Willson, and Buck Paulk are eligible to be elected as an alternate for the upcoming term.
- Upon confirming nominations, ballots shall be prepared and sent to the industry.
