Oct 18, 2024AgriSafe offers mental health training to support agricultural communities after hurricanes
AgriSafe Network is providing free mental health training to professionals counseling agricultural communities in the southeastern U.S. affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
These hurricanes have caused widespread devastation in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia, leaving local support systems struggling to respond.
In response, AgriSafe is offering free seats to its FarmResponse training program, which equips health professionals with the tools needed to support those working in agriculture. The training, listed in the Suicide Prevention Resource Best Practice registry, is designed to help health providers foster resilience and hope within communities during crises.
“Our goal is to ensure that health professionals can provide the best possible care to agricultural workers affected by these disasters,” said Tara Haskins, a representative of AgriSafe. “Mental well-being is just as important as physical recovery during times of crisis.”
AgriSafe encourages interested health care providers to visit its website for more information on the program.
AgriSafe is a nonprofit organization that focuses on educating health care professionals about the unique safety and health challenges facing those in agriculture, fishing and forestry.
