Vancouver-based Almanac, a new AgTech company that encompasses industry brands Semios and Agworld, has introduced a new suite of products and services designed to provide farmers with real-time data and actionable insights to enhance decision-making and boost efficiency.
Almanac’s platform, launched on Oct. 15, aims to help farmers tackle challenges like climate unpredictability and rising input costs by blending traditional farming knowledge with advanced technology.
Almanac offers an intelligence platform, Alma, which collects data from various sources, including farm sensors and partner networks, to offer insights and to simplify complex data to assist farmers in making informed decisions that can improve crop yields, reduce costs and promote sustainability.
“Almanac isn’t just about the latest software, data, AI, or hardware—although we offer those in abundance,” said Sumer Johal, CEO of Semios, one of the technologies integrated into the platform. “Almanac respects, values, and provides wisdom in a field where wisdom is key: the wisdom of farmers, the wisdom of the land, and the wisdom we gather through our technology.”
The Almanac platform includes two tools: Semios, which uses over 500,000 sensors to provide real-time data on climate, pests, and water usage; and Agworld, a farm management software that helps farmers manage budgets, compliance, and operational efficiency.
“Semios has supported nut farmers for more than a decade, since its founding in 2010, by providing precision agriculture solutions, including pest management tools like smart traps and mating disruption for navel orangeworm and codling moth, smart irrigation systems to optimize water use, and real-time weather monitoring for frost and heat protection,” said a spokesperson for Semios.
