Aug 14, 2024California Agricultural Commissioners enforce Dacthal ban following EPA order
California Agricultural Commissioners are actively enforcing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent ban on the herbicide Dacthal (DCPA).
Following the EPA’s August decision, commissioners across the state have swiftly informed local farmers and are ensuring compliance with the new regulation.
“California Agricultural Commissioners are charged with enforcement of pesticide laws in California. We take this responsibility seriously,” said Lindsey Carter, executive eirector of the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association (CACASA). The commissioners’ unique role allows them to leverage their deep knowledge of local agriculture and pesticide use, making them essential in implementing the EPA’s directive.
The state’s system, which requires farmers to obtain an Operator Identification Number and report pesticide usage, allows for quick communication and transparent tracking of pesticide applications. Carter noted that commissioners had already been preparing farmers for this potential ban earlier this year, ensuring they were aware of the pending changes.
Inspections and ongoing monitoring will be conducted to guarantee that the ban is enforced statewide.
