California Walnut Board and Commission honors legacy of Dennis Balint
The California Walnut Board and Commission honors the legacy of Dennis Balint. Learn about his impact on the walnut industry.
Dennis Balint, who served as executive director and CEO of the California Walnut Board and California Walnut Commission from 1995 to 2016, passed away on November 19, 2025.

Under his leadership, the organizations experienced significant growth, including the development of a strong, science-based health and nutrition research program. Balint’s work helped establish California walnuts as a trusted leader in heart-health research and supported the industry in securing the first USDA-qualified health claim for a whole food.
“Dennis cared deeply about California walnut growers and consistently focused on what would strengthen the industry for the long term,” said Robert Verloop, current executive director and CEO of the California Walnut Board and Commission in statement issued December 4. “We are grateful for his service and the legacy he leaves behind. Our thoughts are with the Balint family during this difficult time.”
