Sep 27, 2024Meridian Growers notes pistachio harvest reaches midpoint, almond demand slows
Meridian Growers has released its latest market update, outlining the latest on pistachio and almond harvest and crop size.
The pistachio harvest is more than halfway completed, with crop sizes falling below initial expectations. Growers anticipate the next two weeks will be crucial, as the focus shifts to harvesting the Kerman variety, Meridian Growers shared in its latest market update.
Quality remains steady, although the percentage of closed-shell nuts has increased to an average of 15-18%. Selling activity has stalled, with the industry awaiting an opening price announcement from the largest seller, expected on September 30.
In the almond sector, the rising prices for Nonpareil and Independence varieties have slowed due to reduced demand. Inshell sales have also decreased, as new shipments would not arrive in India before Diwali.
“We are waiting for more information on our orchards in terms of sizing and grades before offering more. Initial sizes have skewed small, with the average being around a 27/30,” the market update read.
These market developments highlight a shift in activity for both crops as growers and sellers navigate changing conditions.
