Mar 31, 2025California almond growers vote to continue ABC marketing order
California almond growers have voted to continue the Almond Board of California’s (ABC) federal marketing order for another five years, according to results released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The referendum, held Dec. 4-20, 2024, saw 90.5% of participating growers, representing 93.3% of the almond volume in the vote, support the continuation of the program. The marketing order, first established in 1950, requires a two-thirds majority either by grower participation or production volume to remain in effect.
The program funds industry initiatives through assessment dollars, supporting marketing efforts, nutrition research, data collection, production studies, environmental stewardship and food safety. It aims to help growers and handlers navigate market fluctuations and increase global demand for California almonds.
California almonds remain a significant contributor to the state’s agricultural economy, ranking as the top crop by acreage, the leading agricultural export, and the No. 1 specialty crop export in the U.S.
More than 200 industry members participate in the Almond Board’s board of directors, committees and work groups, influencing the direction of its programs. Growers are encouraged to engage in public meetings throughout the year, with schedules available on the ABC’s website.
