California Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo has been named the recipient of the 2025 Almond Champion of the Year Award by the Almond Alliance.
The award recognizes Macedo’s leadership on issues affecting California agriculture, including her work on abandoned agricultural land, invasive species, water infrastructure upgrades and wildfire prevention. She has also been credited with helping reduce fuel costs for Californians and advancing coalition-building in the almond industry.
“Assemblywoman Macedo has taken a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach to some of the biggest challenges facing California agriculture,” said Alexi Rodriguez, chief executive officer of the Almond Alliance, in a press release. “Her focus on abandoned land, water infrastructure and wildfire prevention demonstrates an understanding of the pressures facing the almond industry today.”
The annual award honors individuals who demonstrate leadership in education, partnerships and policy advancement in support of California agriculture and the almond industry. Previous recipients include Assemblymember Juan Alanis, Assemblymember Adam Gray and former USDA state executive director Connie Conway.
Macedo will be recognized during the Almond Alliance’s annual fundraiser on Nov. 5 at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto. The event will bring together almond industry members, FFA students, elected officials and special guests.
The recognition comes as California’s almond sector faces mounting pressure from water scarcity, land management and wildfire risks. By honoring Macedo’s efforts, the Almond Alliance highlights the importance of engaging policymakers who support agricultural sustainability and infrastructure investment.
