Nov 6, 2024California Department of Pesticide Regulation schedules public hearings on 1,3-D regulations
The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), in collaboration with the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, is set to hold public hearings in January 2025 to discuss new regulatory measures for 1,3-Dichloropropene (1,3-D), a soil fumigant widely used in agriculture. The proposed regulations aim to reduce potential exposure to 1,3-D for those working near treated fields, referred to as “occupational bystanders.”
These hearings are an opportunity for the public, especially those in agriculture and pest management, to provide feedback on the draft regulations before they are finalized. The hearings are expected to attract farmers, agricultural workers, community members, and other stakeholders interested in pesticide safety and occupational health.
Proposed regulations are due to be released in November 2024.
For more information on the hearings and to register, visit California DPR’s website.
These hearings are part of DPR’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health while supporting sustainable agricultural practices. Draft regulations will be available later this year for public review.
