The California Walnut Commission (CWC) has secured $2.6 million in funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s America First Trade Promotion Program (AFTTP), announced April 16, 2026.

The funding is part of a broader USDA effort to expand market opportunities for U.S. agricultural products in export markets. For California walnuts, the allocation will support retail programs in select international markets aimed at increasing sales and strengthening consumer demand.

According to the USDA, the AFTTP focuses on trade promotion and export development. The CWC plans to use the funding for targeted, sales-driven initiatives designed to build retail presence and drive product movement in key regions.

California produces more than 99% of the walnuts grown in the United States, with the industry supported by more than 3,700 growers and about 70 handlers. The commission, established in 1987, oversees domestic and export market development and supports research related to walnut consumption.

The funding will support ongoing efforts to expand the global reach of California walnuts through coordinated marketing and retail programs.
