Meridian Growers notes robust pistachio exports

Meridian Growers has released its November Pistachio Shipment Report. As of Nov. 30, the American pistachio crop for 2023 stands at 1.49 billion pounds (677,000 metric tons), just shy of breaking the 1.5 billion mark.

Year-to-date shipments of pistachios have surged by an impressive 54% compared to the same period last year, marking one of the most substantial year-over-year increases in recent history.

Notably, the growth is primarily attributed to robust exports, with shipments to Europe doubling and Asia and the Middle East experiencing significant increases ranging from 50% to 70%.

Despite a potential normalization in December shipment numbers, a tightening pistachio supply is anticipated in the coming year due to sustained demand. Consequently, prices are expected to remain firm in the foreseeable future.

Meridian, a key player in the market, has announced the closure of its office and plant from Dec. 25-Jan. 2, allowing its staff to enjoy the holiday season.

In a recent email, Jim Zion from Meridian Growers extended holiday wishes for a safe, healthy and prosperous season and the start of 2024.

The full shipment report from the ACP is available online.
