Purdue Extension offers black walnut workshop

Purdue Extension-Lake County is offering an Oct. 25 black walnut workshop
that features Christine England Maloney, an advanced permaculture and educator and homesteader. This program is sponsored by SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) and will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The October program will be at the Doak Purdue property, at 6800 E. 137th Ave., Crown Point, Indiana. The program is designed to give participants a hands-on experience processing walnuts and sampling the finished product. Register online at tinyurl.com/WalnutProcessing.

The workshop’s purpose is to show participants how walnut processing ties in with permaculture. Participants will review the current and historic uses of walnuts and will learn how to harvest and process walnuts, according to a news release.

For more information and for those needing accommodations to participate in the program, organizers recommend contacting Rebecca Koetz at busser@purdue.edu and at 219-755-3240.
