The University of California Lake County Cooperative Extension (UCCE) office is planning to host a walnut update meeting.
The 2024 Lake County walnut update meeting is scheduled for March 21 at the Scotts Valley Women’s Club in Lakeport, California,
The meeting, hosted through UCCE Lake County’s Diversified Agricultural Systems program, is sponsored by UCCE, the Lake County Department of Agriculture and the California Walnut Board.
For growers, 0.5 hour Laws and 1.5 hour other California Department of Pesticide Regulation CE Units will be requested, according to a news release.
Sessions are scheduled to address these topics:
- Increasing problem of flatheaded borer in walnut orchards
- Walnut whole orchard recycling
- Considerations for effective use of cover crops in walnut orchards
- Orchard weed management
- Testing new lures for walnut husk fly
- California walnut industry update
- Certification and training updates and regulatory changes
Speakers include Jhalendra Rijal, area IPM advisor, Cindy Kron, North Coast Area IPM advisor, Clarissa Reyes, orchard systems advisor, Kamyar Aram, specialty crops advisor, Brad Hanson, UC Davis professor of cooperative Extension, Sam Upton, Lake County Department of Agriculture, Erica Lundquist, district conservationist at USDA-NRCS’ Lakeport field office and Robert Verloop, CEO of the California Walnut Commission.
