Oregon hazelnuts, California pistachios push U.S. tree nut value to $13.1B

Record hazelnut and pistachio crops helped push U.S. tree nut utilized value to $13.1 billion in 2025, up 25% from the previous year, according to USDA’s Noncitrus Fruits and Nuts 2025 Summary.

The nation’s utilized production for tree nuts totaled 4.05 million tons, up 12% from 2024, while bearing acreage increased 2% to 2.85 million acres.

California almonds remained the leading tree nut crop by value, production and acreage. Utilized production totaled 2.64 billion pounds, up less than 1%, while crop value increased 11% to $6.87 billion. Bearing acreage reached 1.4 million acres, and the average price rose to $2.60 per pound.

Oregon hazelnuts posted record utilized production of 121,500 tons, up 26% from the previous year. Crop value more than doubled to $340 million, supported by an average price of $2,800 per ton. Bearing acreage increased 5% to 92,000 acres.

California pistachio production rose 44% to 1.58 billion pounds during an “on” year in the crop’s alternate bearing cycle. Value climbed 58% to $3.92 billion, while the average annual price reached $2.48 per pound. Bearing acreage increased 7% to 521,000 acres.

California walnuts totaled 809,000 tons, up 33%, with crop value increasing 16% to $1.3 billion despite a lower average annual price of $1,610 per ton.

Pecan utilized production increased 7% to 284 million pounds, while Hawaii macadamia production declined 15% to 30.6 million pounds.
