15 days added for comment on proposed marketing order changes for almonds

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is providing an additional 15 days for public comments on the proposed rule that would amend the Federal marketing order regulating the handling of almonds grown in California.

Originally published in the Federal Register on February 22, 2022, the proposed marketing order changes include the removal of ambiguous and obsolete language, removal of irrelevant dates, and clarification of requirements, provisions, and terms in the regulations to better reflect industry practices and the orderly marketing of California almonds.

In addition, proposed changes include requirements for custom processors to submit an annual application to the board. The proposed changes were previously recommended and unanimously approved by Almond Board of California board of directors at meetings held on December 7, 2020, and June 17, 2021.

Interested persons are invited to submit written comments concerning the proposed changes to the rule. Written comments will be accepted through July 7, 2022.
