The Western Agricultural Processors Association has rebranded as the Western Tree Nut Association (WTNA), expanding its mission to formally include growers of pistachios, walnuts, almonds and pecans alongside processors.
The Fresno-based group, originally formed to represent tree nut processors, made the change in response to requests from members who are also involved in tree nut farming. The transition follows a member vote in which 95% supported expanding the organization’s reach to growers.
Under its new name, the association aims to reflect the broader scope of work it has already been undertaking for years, including advocacy on issues that impact both processors and growers. Many of its members operate in both capacities, managing farms and processing facilities for tree nuts.
The rebranding will not change the leadership structure. Roger Isom remains as president and CEO, continuing in his parallel role at the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association. According to the organization, the two agricultural sectors face many of the same regulatory and policy challenges in California, and some members belong to both associations.
The association plans to continue its involvement in state-level regulatory affairs, including monitoring and participating in meetings with the California Air Resources Board, Cal/OSHA, the Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Pesticide Regulation.
With the rebrand, the Western Tree Nut Association is also looking to increase its federal advocacy efforts. The additional membership revenue from growers is expected to support expanded lobbying and representation in Washington, D.C.
The move underscores a growing alignment between farming and processing interests in California’s tree nut industry, positioning the WTNA as a more comprehensive voice for stakeholders across the supply chain.
