Jul 17, 2024Tree nut processor uses metal detectors, magnetic separators to maintain product purity
Cache Creek Foods, a California-based producer of tree nut-based products, has implemented Eriez metal detectors and magnetic separators to maintain product purity. It processes 50 million pounds of tree nuts annually at its 60,000-square-foot facility.
“We have a continuous improvement program to meet critical control points and all HACCP regulations,” said Carl Hartmangruber, plant manager. “Using the best equipment ensures the best quality food.”
The production lines, processing over 25 million pounds of tree nuts, include Eriez magnetic separation equipment to remove stray metal.
For example, the milling line, which processes nuts for products like AlmondMilk and non-dairy yogurts, uses Eriez grate magnets to remove fine tramp metal before and after roasting. An Xtreme Liquid Line Metal Detector further eliminates any remaining metal contaminants.
Cache Creek Foods is SQF 2000 Certified and meets Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. Third-party audits and comprehensive traceability measures guarantee product safety.
Eriez’s Orange University Mobile Training and Education Center provided on-site demonstrations of the equipment, aiding Cache Creek Foods in their selection process. “The mobile center allowed us to see, touch, and understand the equipment better,” Hartmangruber said.
