Nov 14, 2024USDA releases local-level data from Census of Agriculture
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has released 2022 Census of Agriculture data by zip code, offering users access to localized information on farm characteristics.
The new zip code data sets are accessible through Quick Stats, the agency’s online data tool, expanding ways for stakeholders to explore agricultural trends.
“We are excited to provide data users yet another access point to ag census data with our zip code tabulations,” said Joseph Parsons, administrator at NASS. “The ability to examine the data from local vantage points … gives stakeholders and decisionmakers the ability to advocate for their industry and their communities.”
The zip code-level data follows last week’s release of the 2023 Irrigation and Water Management Survey, part of a four-part series of additional ag census publications. The 2023 Census of Aquaculture is scheduled for release on Dec. 16, NASS officials said.
Upcoming census products will include further highlights on producer demographics, commodity data and specialty crop profiles.
In preparation for the next Census of Agriculture in 2027, NASS is currently accepting suggestions for content changes and invites new producers to sign up for future censuses. Details are available on the NASS website at nass.usda.gov.
