Dec 5, 2023American Pistachio Growers welcomes new leader
American Pistachio Growers (APG) has welcomed Joel Nelsen as its new interim president. Nelsen, formerly CEO for California Citrus Mutual (CCM), will assume day-to-day management of APG operations and assist in the search for a new President.
“Nelsen has a proven track record in managing an agricultural organization and his resume and skill set are exactly what we need at this time,” Dennis Woods, board chair for APG, said.
“I was surprised and flattered by the initial outreach from the APG Executive Committee,” stated Nelsen. “It didn’t take long to decide I can help APG and its members as they battle on many fronts to provide a flavorful and quality pistachio to millions of people around the world. It isn‘t getting easier to farm, process and market a California commodity. I have been able to work with industry and other commodities to achieve the best results possible and look forward to doing the same for APG.”
Nelsen’s entire career has been in the fresh produce industry; first as a retail department manager, then public relations representative and ultimately leader of California Citrus Mutual.
“It’s an exciting time for the pistachio industry and our organization,” said Woods, “and APG is eager to welcome Joel and embrace his new ideas.”
