The California Walnut Commission (CWC) has received $17.6 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expand international market opportunities for California walnuts.
The USDA awarded CWC $3.6 million through the 2025 Market Access Program, which supports marketing and promotional initiatives. An additional $14 million was granted through the Regional Agriculture Promotion Program (RAPP) to be used over the next five years for long-term market development and trade missions.
“We are thrilled to receive this substantial support from the USDA,” said Robert Verloop, CEO of the California Walnut Commission, in a release. “These funds will significantly enhance our ability to promote California walnuts on a global scale, ensuring that consumers around the world can enjoy the high quality and nutritional benefits of our product. We are committed to leveraging this funding to drive demand, open new markets, and support the economic growth of our industry.”
The commission’s efforts will target key international markets in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, where demand for healthy and nutritious food is increasing. By working with international partners, the commission aims to strengthen its market presence and expand awareness of California walnuts.
