Apr 24, 2025California Walnut Commission accepting nominations for 2025 board election
The California Walnut Commission is now accepting nominations for its 2025 board election, calling on growers and handlers across the state to take an active role in guiding the future of the walnut industry.
The commission will elect members and alternates to serve a two-year term starting September 1, 2025, and ending August 31, 2027. Four members and four alternates will be elected to represent their respective districts. Those interested in running must submit a completed nomination form during the nomination period, which opens May 1 and closes June 2.
Producers must include at least 15 signatures from eligible growers, while handlers need a minimum of five signatures from fellow handlers to qualify for the ballot. Ballots will be distributed in late June, and the nominees receiving the most votes in each district will be recommended for appointment by the California Secretary of Food and Agriculture.
“We are looking for individuals who are committed to the success of the walnut industry,” said Robert Verloop, CEO of the California Walnut Commission. “Serving on the commission isn’t just a title — it’s an opportunity to challenge norms, collaborate with peers and push forward on issues that matter to growers and handlers.”
The commission says elected members will play a key role in advancing its strategic goals, which include boosting global demand for California walnuts, promoting health and nutrition research, encouraging sustainability, and fostering innovation in product development and packaging.
The commission is particularly encouraging participation from younger growers, whose perspectives are seen as vital for keeping pace with shifting consumer trends and market conditions. Those not elected or unable to serve on the board can still contribute by joining committees and working groups focused on marketing, research, and other key areas.
