Domestic, export almond shipments continue slight decline in June

The Almond Board of California’s June 2025 position report shows total shipments are down slightly from the previous year, continuing a trend of softened demand as the current crop year nears its close.

From August 2024 through June 2025, total almond shipments reached 2.45 billion pounds, down 2.52% from the 2.51 billion pounds shipped during the same period a year earlier. Domestic shipments accounted for 621 million pounds, a nearly 8% decline, while export shipments dipped just over 0.5% to 1.83 billion pounds.

Despite the year-over-year slowdown, new crop receipts through June totaled nearly 2.71 billion pounds, up 10.9% from the prior year. Total marketable supply climbed to 2.66 billion pounds, not including the August carry-in of 502.7 million pounds. Altogether, the industry’s total supply stood at 3.16 billion pounds.

June shipments alone reflected the ongoing shift. Domestic shipments for the month reached 51.3 million pounds, down from 62 million the previous June. Export shipments also fell to 135.4 million pounds, compared to 144.1 million last June.

Committed but undelivered sales dropped nearly 10% year-over-year to 312 million pounds, with domestic commitments falling more steeply at 20%. Uncommitted inventory rose over 18%, reaching more than 337 million pounds.

As of June 30, the industry’s computed inventory was pegged at just under 685 million pounds, and the forecasted carryout remains at 550 million pounds.

Although total shipments remain slightly off pace compared to the previous year, strong new crop receipts and relatively flat exports suggest continued global demand despite pricing pressures and logistical hurdles. How remaining summer shipments and early-season commitments shape up will be key as the 2025 harvest approaches.
