Feb 16, 2026January almond position report shows softer shipments, steady supply
The Almond Board of California’s (ABC) January 2026 position report shows year-to-date shipments trailing last season, with domestic movement continuing to lag while exports remain comparatively steady.
Total shipments for the 2025-26 crop year through Jan. 31 reached 1.277 billion pounds, down 7.04% from 1.373 billion pounds at the same point last year.
Domestic shipments down nearly 18%
According to the January position report, domestic shipments totaled 293.65 million pounds year to date, a 17.88% decline compared to the prior crop year.
January domestic movement came in at 51.01 million pounds, down 17.3% from January 2025, according to the ABC’s historical comparison table.
Domestic shipments have trended lower each month this crop year compared to last season, with particularly steep year-over-year declines in October (-28.5%) and January (-17.3%)
Exports slightly lower year over year
Export shipments reached 983.0 million pounds through January, down 3.23% compared to the same period last season. January export shipments totaled 155.06 million pounds, down 7.1% from January 2025.
Despite the overall export decline year to date, several regions showed notable gains. Southeast Asia shipments were up 45% for the month and 45% year to date compared to last season.
The Middle East/Africa region posted a 20% increase for January and is up 5% year to date. Northeast Asia, however, remains a pressure point, with shipments down 26% year to date.
Supply and inventory
Total supply for the 2025-26 crop year stands at 3.114 billion pounds, down 1.79% from last season.
Crop receipts to date total 2.627 billion pounds, down 1.41% from the prior year. Computed inventory as of Jan. 31 is 1.740 billion pounds, up 2.36% year over year. Uncommitted inventory stands at 1.169 billion pounds, up 2.08% compared to last year.
The report projects a 625 million-pound carryout for the 2025-26 crop year.
Quality and receipts
Quality Control Receipts show total receipts of 2.627 billion pounds through Jan. 31, with an overall inedible percentage of 2.62%.
Nonpareil continues to represent the largest share of receipts at 38.18%, followed by Monterey (18.78%) and Independence (16.39%).
